They say that if you merge a Filipino in a crowd of diverse nationalities, two things might eventually happen- either he becomes the leader of the group or one that shines the most. Alone, he can be a majority! We’ve seen it happen so many times!

There is just something about the Filipino! By himself, he could be a conqueror. Give him a side kick, he can create a master plan. And then, gather a multitude, Filipinos can change a nation. We can only look back to history and see how strong this people are- when they work, live and play as one!

Unsurprisingly, this is the very essence of what the organizers think and feel about the forthcoming Philippine Summer Festival. For the first time, there will be an event that Filipino Canadians in BC can call entirely as their signature event in this part of the globe. It may just be the beginning, a gestation exercise of what may eventually become a landmark “Pinoy Woodstock” “Hataw Pinoy”, the Summer Festival’s “battle-cry” depicts just that- a message of strength, of togetherness, of sharing combined talents, exploring ties and connecting lives. “Hataw Pinoy” simply conjure the motivational push “kaya natin ‘to!” especially “kung sama-sama, nagkakisa at nagtutulungan”. It is so much reminiscent of the new society’s battle-cry in the 70’s – “Isang Bansa, Isang diwa!”.
